I went to one of his workshops a few years back and came away rather unimpressed. To me it seemed that his vision was very 'top down' and controlling, and I recall his reactive and negative response to the NZC.Allan Alachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18158713687489914185noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8438349.post-38676380679528498762012-06-12T13:51:32.071+12:002012-06-12T13:51:32.071+12:00Thanks Ivan. Like many such 'experts' he 'runs with the hares and hunts also with the hounds'. I have been reading about 'positive deviants' on the web - fascinating. Their ideas can be shared but not imposed.Bruce Hammondshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07031065790535111400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8438349.post-2610188232553139202012-06-12T12:52:52.327+12:002012-06-12T12:52:52.327+12:00Bruce, this an excellent post. He ignores the political nature of our schools and I see little evidence of substantial change in his backyard, Canada. He has good ideas, but he is as far removed from the classroom as the politicians. What good does that do the teacher?Ivon Prefontainehttp://ivonprefontaine.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8438349.post-71396562474587593562012-06-11T23:47:04.807+12:002012-06-11T23:47:04.807+12:00A new government could set up regional structures ...A new government could set up regional structures and employ people to identify 'positive deviants' and then to facilitate the sharing of their ideas - rather like earlier advisory service. With modern technology this would be simple thing to do.Bruce Hammondshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07031065790535111400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8438349.post-20114984146541935152012-06-11T18:13:34.181+12:002012-06-11T18:13:34.181+12:00Fully agree about the importance of 'positive ...Fully agree about the importance of 'positive deviants' - the challenge is how to find them and begin to share their ideas in an era of schools competing with each other.

Really good news about Elwyn's book - let's hope it marks the beginning of a new emphasis on creative teaching.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
